So what're some of your favorite authors and/or books?

I really like many books by Dean Koonts. He has some that are ehhh-alright, but others are downright fantastic.

I also like the Gabriel Allon series by Daniel Silva. Lee Child is another great author.

My all-time favorite books are Velocity by Dean Koonts and Treasure Island by Robert Louis Stevenson. Kite Runner is up there too.

I've enjoyed Koontz, although I haven't read him lately because I'm never sure who I'm going to get; the good one or the really mediocre one...lol.

And surely Treasure Island is a classic, and a must read for everyone.

I'm partial to John Wyndham, a British science fiction writer. His short story "Rebirth" is hard to find, but it is definitely worth the effort.

I just finished rereading the 4 book March Up Country series by John Ringo & David Weber. Futuristic military/fantasy novels. Entertaining series following a spoiled brat of a prince & his body guards as they crash land on a planet on the edge of the empire. I like how the characters evolve throughout the series.

One of my favorite authors is British writing Terry Pratchett. He co-wrote Good Omens: The Nice and Accurate Prophecies of Agnes Nutter, Witch with Neil Gaimon. What would happen if the son of Satan was given to the wrong family & no one knew until it was too late & the angels sent to help end the world prefer the statis quo?

Pratchett's disc world series I have re-read several times and continue to be entertained. His characters are imperfect creatures. A wizard who only knows one spell...unfortunately, that spell could destroy the planet. Capt. of the night watch, happier on the mean streets of the city in the dark of night then in the mansion where he currently lives. Being a witch is not just about spells & potions, it is about headology. Death has feelings, too, kind of, well, he??? prefers black.[/i]

I loved A Wrinkle In Time. Haven't read the whole series. The movie they made of the first one disappointed me of course.

For the quick and entertaining read, I liked picking up Stephen King ('Salem's Lot) and John Grisham (The Brethren). Both men wrote wonderful stories, though they seem to be coming up short lately.

I love Ursula K. LeGuin; The Left Hand of Darkness and "The Ones That Walk Away From Omelas" are two of my favorites. Margaret Atwood is another wonderful sci-fi writer -- I've read The Handmaid's Tale and her book on the craft of writing, Negotiating With The Dead. She has a humor that chimes all the right bells with me.

I've also enjoyed David Sedaris (Naked, Dress Your Family in Corduroy Denim) and Augusten Burroughs (Running With Scissors, Dry). They're funny men with insights on the world and everything within it that seemed unique to me.

Last but hardly least, consider mystery writers Dashiell Hammett and Raymond Chandler. Hammett has the nitty gritty stories I just can't get enough of, and Chandler is a wonderful mystery writer with great detective short stories. For anyone who loves the noir language, they do an excellent job.
